Our Practice
Discoveries
We start with the question no one's answered yet, and we follow it until it becomes something real.
How do you share a sensory experience?
What if you could 3D print food?
What if you could 3D print a chair?
Are humans robots?
What if we could digitally grow furniture?
How do you design for a future that could be any future?
Our projects are the tangible answers to these questions. Dive in and discover for yourself.
-
Preservation Heritage Park, Digitized How do you hold on to a place while your city changes around it? Education Watts the Spot An NSF-funded renewable energy education program that teaches students about power through hands-on discovery. -
Education Game Tower When students design video games about ethics, 4,500 people play their answers. Two seasons, eight games, one question: What could games teach us about decision-making? -
Education Digital Voice Box A simple question opens complex thinking. Students build robots that listen and speak, discovering biomimicry principles that blur the line between nature and engineering. -
Film Robo Owl How do you design for a future that could be any future? Creating a character prop for American High's film 'It's A Wonderful Binge.' -
Health Face Shield When the pandemic hit, we asked: How can we help? 3.5 million face shields later, this is the story of rapid response manufacturing. -
Furniture Resolute Chair What if you could 3D print a chair? Six years, eight printer versions, and 124 hours of printing to answer one ambitious question. -
Art Cyborg Sculpture How do you share a sensory experience? A collaboration with Neil Harbisson, the world's first government-recognized cyborg. -
Furniture Tree Table A table grown from recycled plastic bottles using procedural generation. What if furniture could be grown, not built? -
Furniture Scoria Stools Discovering the aesthetic of Scoria through failed experiments. What if constraints could become creativity? -
Food 3D Printed Food What if you could 3D print food? A pastry chef and a fabricator explore the delicious intersection of culinary art and digital fabrication. -
Product Buildini What if 3D printers were instruments of curiosity instead of closed boxes? An open, flexible machine that invites experimentation, modification, and discovery. -
Installation All of the Lights An installation of 100 unique 3D printed lamps, each design hand-sculpted and one-of-a-kind
